Caring For Your Pet Naturally and Holistically

Just wondering if any of you have horses that have bonded to an animal other than another equine. My mare is currently living on my property alone (she can see the neighbor’s horses, but they are across the street with a pasture in between. I can’t afford another horse right now so was entertaining the idea of another (smaller) companion animal. (would be housed next my horse if I do get one, not in her corral).

The History of Pet Grooming

Pet grooming is a common practice in our society. People don’t even think twice of spending hundreds of dollars having their pets groomed and bathed by a pet grooming professional. It is such a common connivance that many people forget the history of what made this profession what it is.

If you look at the paintings of the Elizabethan era you will see pets portrayed in paintings that are well groomed and clean. Who did the grooming? Was grooming a pet an actual profession back then? Was the local barber responsible for pet care as well as cutting hair and medical responsibilities? At the local Lord or Lady have their hair cut alongside their pet There are actually paintings from that era that depict a dog being sheared while sitting on ladies lap.

As breeds became popular in the 17th century, poodles inFrance received recognition for being the dog of the court. This entry also records that professional grooming parlors were open for dogs. In 1879 Shaw wrote a book called The Book of the Dog. This book made references concerning dog grooming in England and gave helpful hints of how to clean, groom, and keep your dog healthy.

I am trying to find a detailed website with pictures of Native American equine body paint. All the different tribes paintings with their meanings and with pictures. This is for the paintings they did on their horses before hunts, raids, etc.
I have tried to google it with no good results. I am probably typing in the wrong thing in the search.
Does anyone know of a good website? Or maybe even a book?

Equine Outreach got a call saying pick up some wild horses or let them ship to Mexico, so we went and picked them up. The volunteers who were out at EOI moved the geldings from the last group of WS Horses out into the pasture and got their old pen ready for the new arrivals. And what colorful new arrivals they are. Palominos, Dunalinos, Paint, Appys, and even a cremello filly. We reunited mothers and babies and siblings. We also saved a orphaned appy colt with an injured leg and some Stallions who will be gelded soon. All of these beautiful horses now have a chance at a happy life. Four of these horses have already found a home and hopefully more will find homes soon too! Please contact Equine Outreach for adoption information or to donate to help support these wild horses. www.equineoutreach.com Adopt@EquineOutreach.com ~Thanks for watching~

Buying a Horse

A horse is a companion like no other…it feels very mystical when you get a horse that’s right for you…

If you are venturing out to buy a horse, then that means you have done all of your homework and have researched and understand all that is involved in horse ownership–you are aware of the long-term commitment required and know the responsibility and costs involved in owning a horse. And you have made arrangements to provide a suitable home for your new horse.

That said, you will want to have some idea on the kind of horse you’re looking for before going horse shopping. What characteristics and personality do you want your horse to have? You can gain some idea by using your own past experience taking trail rides or riding lessons, going to horse shows, reading horse magazines or talking to horse owners. Knowing what sort of horse you want before shopping will help keep you focused and not get caught up in a spontaneous purchase, only to find out later on you ended up with the wrong horse. You also need to know what your horse-buying budget is and only concentrate on shopping for horses within your established price range.

There are responsibilities involved in taking care of an animal, as there are diseases that can affect animals and horses. There are many causes like food habits or parasites, and the main thing is quick and timely treatment for its recovery.

Colic is a condition that cannot be ignored. Horses are known to die of this if left untreated. The symptoms can easily be noticed and horse owners should be aware of the signs to look out for.

Symptoms Of Colic In Horses

The horse may feel jumpy and act in a crazy manner – you will need to remain with the animal for a while to make sure that it is suffering.

There are other horses that may stand up or lie flat on the ground and kick its stomach. This is the same reaction that humans adopt when confronted with pain. It would be wise to remove the horse to another area so that it does not do damage to itself or the stable.

The horse usually sleeps lying flat on the ground, so since this is normal, it may not mean anything, but if there is a change since last seen, there could be a reason and should be looked into.
