Question:

My schnauzer has tumors (a schnauzer trait) she has one on each side of her neck and has a hard time breathing. the vet says not operable. .. do you think prednisone would relieve some of the inflammation and give her relief? She weighs 40 pounds, so what size does do you think she should have? prednisone? depomedrol? solumedrol? orapred? This dog is 13 years old and a huge part of my family so I will do anything to make her comfortable.

Answer:

Hi Leslie,

Thank you for your query. You are to be commended for researching the use of natural alternatives. We are so sorry to hear about your pet.

Prednisone is a glucocorticoid steroid used to treat anorexia and cachexia and some cancers. It is similar to a steroid hormone made by the adrenal glands in the body. Prednisone decreases inflammation by preventing white blood cells from completing an inflammatory reaction. This drug can cause lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell, to break apart and die. Thus it is an important drug used in combination with other chemotherapy agents to treat many different cancers. This drug is FDA approved for cancer treatment.

Question:

Hi, My dog has a recurring sarcoma on her paw, The vet said
they are more a nusance than a threat. Anyway, she has had the growth removed by surgery 4 times in the past 6 years and it keeps coming back.

She is getting older and I do not wish if I don’t have to to continually
have surgery on her. Do you have any suggestions for treatment? Your
help would be greatly appreciated.

Sharon

Question:

I have a 4 year old Great Dane female who is being treated for urinary incontinence with 50 mg of phenylpropanoliamine. I also started her on an herbal suppliment (immunity & liver support) containing taraxacum officinalis, echinacea purpurea, withania somnifera, silybum marianus and rice powder. will she be safe taking both at the same time?

Answer:

Hi Bridget

Thanks for your query. The ingredients of Immunity and Liver Support have a high safety profile and there is no known negative interaction with the prescription medication that Cadee is taking.

As a precaution we always recommend that you inform your vet whenever you add any remedies to medication that your pet is already taking.
